This rare American Express Company stock certificate was issued in 1878 and signed by founder William G. Fargo (aka Wells Fargo). American Express was founded by Henry Wells, William G. Fargo and J.W. Butterfield in 1850 in Buffalo, NY. Just two years later, Wells and Fargo would also start Wells Fargo & Co. Together they founded two of the most iconic companies in American History.

Henry Wells signed as President and Alexander Holland signed as Treasurer who was the son-in-law of founder John Butterfield.
