Description Extended Information

The Standard Oil Company of Colorado formed in 1927 to supposedly buy and operate petroleum fields as well and refining and distribution. There were not affiliated with the Standard Oil founded by John D. Rockefeller.

As you can imagine, they were sued by the real Standard Oil for basically stealing their name with intent on passing themselves off as the real deal. They also used the Standard Oil name to sell stock (like this one). When they began to sell stock, it came to the attention of Standard Oil when people called to buy stock which they sold for $10 per share. Of that $10, $7 went to agents for a commission. Pretty hefty fee.

The courts ruled in favor of Standard Oil and Standard Oil of Colorado was disbanded.

This Standard Oil Company of Colorado stock certificate was issued in 1931. Hand signed by the company President, S.H. Weber.
