Description

This rare NYSE trade ticket was issued by Edward B. Smith & Co in 1934 for 20 shares of the National Tea Company. Edward B. Smith & Co merged with Chas. D. Barney & Co in 1937 to become the financial powerhouse Smith, Barney & Co. Edward B. Smith was founded in 1892 while Charles D. Barney & Co was founded in 1873. Smith primarily dealt with underwriting and investment banking while Barney dealt with the brokering of stocks and bonds. Smith ran low on funds during 1937 and the two merged keep the underwriting business liquid. Smith, Barney would expand and become major player on Wall Street and throughout the world.

Over the years they underwent several mergers including Harris, Upham, Primerica, Shearson, Lehman Brothers, Salomon Brothers and then Citi. During the Financial Crisis of 2008, Citigroup received a federal bailout and decided to spin out Smith Barney. In 2009 Smith Barney merged with Morgan Stanley to become Morgan Stanley Smith Barney.

This one-of-a-kind trade ticket is presented in a gorgeous high quality acrylic display that weights over 1.5 lbs. Magnetically held together, the display is easy to open if want to inspect your item. Perfect for a desktop or bookshelf display.
