Description

This rare booklet from the American Stock Exchange Clearing Corporation is a complete list of the Exchange's members from Bear Stearns, Salomon Brothers & Hutzler, Smith Barney, to Paine, Webber, Jackson & Curtis. It lists the members trading information including their abbreviated symbol and clearing number. This information would be used for trading at the American Stock Exchange.

The New York Curb Exchange was established in the early 1900s. It got it's name because brokers actually traded on the "curb" outside the New York Stock Exchange. It's name became formalized as the New York Curb Exchange in 1929 and eventually was renamed the American Stock Exchange in 1953. The American Stock Exchange, once a competitor of the NYSE and the third largest U.S. stock exchange, was purchased by NYSE Euronext in 2008.
