This rare Activision Specimen Stock Certificate was printed in 2001. Activision was founded in 1979 by former Atari developers and they are one of the largest video game published in the world. The company struggled through the 90s and through many mergers, including Vivendi, and the release of some mega-hits like Call of Duty and Guitar Hero the company turned into multi-$billion company. They are now known as Activision Blizzard and are currently in the process of being acquired by Microsoft.
Some of their games include Pitfall!, Zork, Star Trek, Tony Hawk, X-Men, Call of Duty, Doom, Guitar Hero, SpongeBob and many more.
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by
printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock
issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped
holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number
of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial
number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never
issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate
rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect
specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
