This rare specimen certificate was made by the American Bank Note Company as a demonstration certificate for potential clients. It allows them to demonstrate the various features of stock certificates. This is a rare find and a must have for any scripophily enthusiast.

The American Bank Note Company was founded in 1795 by Robert Scott who was the first official engraver for the U.S. Mint. The American Bank Note Company provides high quality stock and bonds, currency, and postage stamps. Many of which you can see on our site today. They are considered one of the premier printers of high quality stocks and bonds in the world.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued.
