This Associated Telephone Utilities Co Specimen Stock Certificate is rare find. Formed in 1926 through the merger of Associated Telephone Company of Long Beach and Commonwealth Telephone (Wisconsin). They went into receivership in 1933 and reorganized as General Telephone Corporation. They grew to become the largest independent telephone system outside of the Bell System. They merged with Sylvania Electric Products in 1959 and became General Telephone & Electronics Corp (GT&E). They were acquired by Bell Atlantic in 2000 and then became Verizon Communications.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued.
