This Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Stock certificate was signed by John Kissig Cowen, president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad from 1896 - 1901. Cowen was appointed counsel of the B&O Railroad in 1872 and was promoted to General Counsel. He was elected to the 54th Congress representing the 4th district of Maryland in 1895. He resigned in 1896 to become the president of the Baltimore and Ohio.

Incorporated in 1827, The B&O railroad is one of the oldest railroads in the United States was also made famous in the classic Monopoly board game. This stock certificate was issued in 1898 and is hand signed by John K. Cowen.
