This rare Beech Creek, Clearfield & South Western Rail Road Company stock receipt was hand-signed by Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr. in 1884. Cornelius Vanderbilt II was the favorite grandson of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt and the eldest son of William Henry Vanderbilt and succeeded him as President and Chairman of the New York Central Railroad and took over the Vanderbilt Empire.

Beech Creek's history dates back to 1882 as the Susquehanna and South Western Railroad. They would change their name to Beech Creek, Clearfield and South Western Railroad in 1883. The Vanderbilts were involved with the RR for years providing capital and manpower.
