Description Extended Information

This rare Beech-Nut Life Savers, Inc. Specimen Stock Certificate was printed in 1967. Beech-Nut's history dates back to 1891 as, of all things, a packaging company for ham. They specialized in smoked ham and bacon. In 1910, they launched Beech-Nut Chewing Gum. Life Savers were first made in 1912 by a candy maker in Ohio. Life Savers Limited merged with Beech-Nut in 1956.

Beech-Nut Life Savers, Inc. merged with Squibb in 1968 to become Squibb Beech-Nut Corp which makes this stock certificate even more rare. They only used the name Beech-Nut Life Savers, Inc. from 1956 to 1968. After several acquisitions over the years, they are now owned by Mars.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
