See's Candies is one of Berkshire Hathaway's trademark purchases. Charlie Munger persuaded Warren Buffett to buy the company in 1972 for $25 million. Prior to the purchase, Buffett primarily purchased assets on the cheap and performing poorly. This was Munger's move to get Warren Buffett to purchase a high-quality company at a fair price. They have said See's Candies was first high-quality company they ever bought and provided an vital lesson to them both. The lessons learned from See's would shape their future purchases for year's to come.
