This rare Bon Aqua Springs Association Stock Certificate was issued in 1872 and is hand-signed by the company president. It is certificate #8. The Bon Aqua Springs Resort dates back to 1806 when revolutionary war veteran Abner Ponder settle the land and opened a tavern called Ponder's Inn. He sold the springs and 400 acres. William Locke Weems built 15 log cabins and created a health resort focused on the springs call Bon Aqua, meaning "good water". The resort passed to his son in 1852 who dies of Civil War wounds in 1864.

After the war, the land was purchased by the Bon Aqua Springs Association who replaced the log cabins with cottages and a large hotel. It would become a hot spot for Nashville's wealth elite. As the nearby railroad traffic declined due to the increasing use of automobiles and modern medicine replaced health spas, the Bon Aqua Spring declines in the early 1900s. The hotel was dismantled in the 1940s land was old in tracts in 2005. The land consisted of 200-400 year old trees which were saved and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
