This Empire Gold & Silver Mining Company Gold Bond was issued in 1864 (Civil War Era) and still has 14 coupons still attached. Certificate #380. Empire Gold and Silver was incorporated in New York with very early mining interests in Bodie, California. They purchased several mining claims in Bodie including Leland Stanford's Bodie Bluff Mine prior to the 1879 gold rush. Mismanagement led to bankruptcy in 1868 when their claims had to be sold for taxes. The Bodie Boom began just 10 years later.

Features the signatures of Alonzo Child as president, Henry K. Gates as secretary, and John P. Yelverton and David B. Turner as Trustees.
