Description Extended Information

This extremely rare bond is from the Empire of Brazil, province of Amazonas dated May 24, 1876. It features the portrait of Emperor Pedro II, the second and last emperor of Brazil and the only monarch born on native soil. His portrait is flanked by two dragons and the his royal crown on top. It is certificate #24 and the only issued example of the bond we know to exist. We have found one other that was un-issued and sold in 2021. It appears to be signed by the Provincial President of Amazonas (illegible). Certificate is in Portuguese.

Pedro II became Emperor at the age of 5 when his father abdicated the thrown to return to Portugal where his brother had taken his daughter's thrown. He reigned for 49 years after being deposed by a military coup in 1889 and forced into exile.
