Founded by William Durant in 1908, General Motors was the worlds largest automobile manufacture from 1931 to 2007. Commonly referred to as GM, the company has sold automobiles under some of the most famous names including Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, Saturn, and Opel. General Motors filed bankruptcy in 2009 and was bailed out by the U.S. Government. The shareholders of the old GM lost essentially all their investment but the company emerged as the reorganized GM in 2010.
