One of America’s biggest corporate melt down’s, Global Crossing would become one of the largest bankruptcies in American history. Global Crossing was a large telecommunication company who, at it's peak, was valued at over $47 billion. In 2002, they filed for bankruptcy after it was accused of an accounting scandal and cover-up. In 2001, they lost over $3 billion on less than $800 million in revenue. Executives still were paid massive bonuses despite the bankruptcy, unpaid employees and huge layoffs.
In 2011, Global Crossing was purchased by Level 3 Communications for $3 billion which also assumed over $1 billion of debt.
