Description Extended Information

This rare Global Crossing Specimen Stock Certificate was printed in 2003. One of America’s biggest corporate melt down’s, Global Crossing would become one of the largest bankruptcies in American history. Global Crossing was a large telecommunication company who, at it's peak, was valued at over $47 billion. In 2002, they filed for bankruptcy after it was accused of an accounting scandal and cover-up. In 2001, they lost over $3 billion on less than $800 million in revenue. Executives still were paid massive bonuses despite the bankruptcy, unpaid employees and huge layoffs.

In 2011, Global Crossing was purchased by Level 3 Communications for $3 billion which also assumed over $1 billion of debt.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
