This Great Northern Railway $1000 Bond Certificate was issued in 1946. Hill and a group of investors purchased the St. Paul and Pacific RR in 1878. Shortly after with the consolidation of several other lines, he changed the name to the Great Northern Railway. The Great Northern ran throughout the Midwest and north to Canada.

In 1970 the Great Northern merged with three other Railway to form the Burlington Northern Railroad.

These Great Northern Railway bond certificates are becoming scarce.
