This Hawaiian Bell Telephone Company Stock Certificate is un-issued from the 1880s. Hawaiian Bell Telephone was the first telephone company in Hawaii. Incorporated in 1883, the Mutual Telephone Company in the Kingdom of Hawaii was the second telephone company after the Hawaiian Bell Telephone Company but Mutual Telephone took them just a year later. They changed their name to the Hawaiian Telephone Company in 1954. They were acquired by GTE Corp in 1967 which merged with Bell Atlantic in 2000 to form Verizon Communications. They then became Verizon Hawaii. There name changed to Hawaiian Telecom after the Carlyle Group purchase in 2004.
