Description

This rare IBM World Trade Corporation Specimen $5000 Bearer Bond is from 1981 and paid 12 1/2% and was due in 1988. The IBM World Trade Corp was a subsidiary of IBM formed in 1949 to expand IBM reach globally. Their headquarters was located next to the United Nations in New York. The IBM World Trade Corp was headed by Thomas Watson who predicted the division would soon be larger than the U.S. parent company. In 1975, the revenues of the global subdivision surpassed the United States. All 7 bearer bond coupons still attached.

IBM was added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average May 26, 1932.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
