Iron Mountain Inc. originated in 1951 when Herman Knaust bought an old Iron mine expecting to grow mushrooms in it.  During the cold war Knaust came up with the idea of protecting corporate information from nuclear weapons within the mine, Iron Mountain Atomic Storage Corp. was formed.  Now called Iron Mountain Inc. the company has held as much as 94% of the Fortune 1000 information storage and management market share.  The company trades on the NYSE under the ticker symbol IRM.  Issued 1972 for 1000 shares.
