This John's Bargain Stores Corp stock certificate was issued in 1970. John's Bargain Stores was founded in 1955 by Harry Coen and operated 527 stores throughout the Midwest and Northeast and were a mainstay in many neighborhoods including Brooklyn, NY. . They purchased overstock items at a discount similar to how HomeGoods and Marshalls operates today. The operated in lower-end retail and fell into financial trouble in the 1960s and eventually declared bankruptcy. They operated into the 1970s until the death of their founder, Harry Coen.
