This large hand-colored old world map with double hemispheres was published by A.J. Johnson and Benjamin Ward. The map is from Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas. The world map features details such as the Northwest Passage and the still limited knowledge around the Antarctic Coast.

A.J. Johnson was a prominent map maker in the United States in the 19th Century. He worked along side Colton in his early days before branching out on his own. His first major publication was Johnson's New Illustrated (Steel Plate) Family Atlas.
