This Liberty Financial specimen stock certificate was printed in 1995. Liberty Financial Companies, once traded on the NYSE, was taken private in 2001 by during a merger with a wholly owned subsidiary of the company's majority stock holder, Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to be taken private, Liberty Financial Companies sold it's annuity and bank marketing businesses to Sun Life Assurance and it's asset management business to Fleet Boston Financial.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros.
