The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company revolutionized communications at sea and provide life-saving communication with ships. The first instance of its use was in 1899 when the East Goodwin Lightship which used a Marconi wireless apparatus when it was rammed by steamship R.F. Matthews. In 1909 over 1700 people were saved when the SS Republic collided with another ship. Most notably, a Marconi device was on the Titanic and was credited for saving the lives of the few who survived the Titanic disaster in 1912.
