Description

This interesting vintage Pin Back Button is from the Midwest Stock Exchange of Chicago and was given to floor traders to pin on their jacket. While we are unsure of what the event was they were hosting, it was sure to be an interesting one. The button is dated October 16-23, 1987. Black Monday was October 19th, putting this event smack dab in the middle of the selling pressure that started in the week before Black Monday and the subsequent days after.

It became a tradition on Exchanges to commemorate significant Exchange events by giving the floor trader a button to pin on their jacket. These buttons would be handed out that morning on the trading floor. Most tend to be discarded at the end of the day making them pretty tough to find.

The Midwest Stock Exchange was originally known as the Chicago Stock Exchange until it merged with several other exchanges in 1949 to form the Midwest Stock Exchange. They are now known as NYSE Chicago.
