Description Extended Information

This rare Minneapolis Labor Temple Association stock certificate was issued in 1946 and is hand-signed by the company president. After the bloody events of the Teamster's strike, the Minneapolis Labor Temple Association was founded in 1930. Prominent corporate leaders and labor organizations purchased shares of the for-profit Association to fund the management of a fraternal home for local unions. The Association's main purpose was to own "Labor Temples" or buildings for the use of its member labor organizations or associations of employees in the Twin Cities.

Their first labor temple was the Eagles Hall in Minneapolis across from where the United Labor Center would eventually be built. It would be used for meetings, events theatre and literature and English language classes.
