Description Extended Information

This Mutual Telephone Company Specimen Bond Certificate is a rare find from 1952 and issued from the Territory of Hawaii. Hawaiian Bell Telephone was the first telephone company in Hawaii. Incorporated in 1883, the Mutual Telephone Company in the Kingdom of Hawaii was the second telephone company after the Hawaiian Bell Telephone Company but Mutual Telephone took them over just a year later. They changed their name to the Hawaiian Telephone Company in 1954. They were acquired by GTE Corp in 1967 which merged with Bell Atlantic in 2000 to form Verizon Communications. They then became Verizon Hawaii. There name changed to Hawaiian Telecom after the Carlyle Group purchase in 2004.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
