In 1984 NYNEX was spun off of AT&T as part of the antitrust case and was one of the original "Baby Bells".  NYNEX stands for New York New England, it was the Baby Bell that serviced those areas.  NYNEX merged with Bell Atlantic in 1997 and is now part of Verizon.  The beautiful vignette on this stock certificate feature the World Trade Center Towers.
