National Steel Corporation was formed in 1929. The company was headquartered in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and had operations throughout the midwest. In the 1980's the Japanese steel manufacture Nippon Kokan began buying shares of the company and by 1990 it would own 70%. In 2000 it was discovered that an executive had taken millions in bribes from steel scrapping companies. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2003 and the remains of the company were sold to U.S. Steel Corp. Issued 1970s
