Description Extended Information

Nevada Power Company was formed in 1906 as Consolidated Power and Telephone, it was the original telephone and electric company for newly formed Las Vegas Nevada. The company split into Southern Nevada Telephone Company and Southern Nevada Power in 1929. Southern Nevada Power was the first electric company to receive power from the Hoover Dam. In 1999 the company merged with Sierra Pacific Resources which eventually was bought by Berkshire Hathaway as Berkshire Hathaway Energy.

This Nevada Power Company Preferred Stock Certificate was for 100 shares and paid a 9.75% dividend.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
