This Nortel Networks Corp Stock Certificate was issued in 2002. The Northern Electric and Manufacturing Company was incorporated in 1895 as the mechanical department of the Bell Telephone Company of Canada (now Bell Canada). They became Northern Electric Company in 1914 after they merged with Imperial Wire and Cable. The would change their name to Northern Telecom Ltd in 1976 (Nortel). At its peak Nortel was valued at 1/3 of the total valuation of all companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange. They filed for bankruptcy in 2009 in the U.S. and Canada and their stock dropped 80% and would be the largest bankruptcy in Canadian history.
