This rare Okmulgee Producing & Refining Company stock certificate was issued in 1918 and is hand-signed. Okmulgee is a city and county in Oklahoma founded by the Muscogee Creek Nation in 1868 after they were relocated there from Macon, Georgia following the Trail of Tears. Okmulgee began as Indian Territory in Oklahoma.

The Okmulgee Producing & Refining Company was formed in 1916 after the discovery of oil. This discovery brought great wealth to many in the Creek Nation. In 1918 (the year of this stock cert), William Howard Taft visited Okmulgee. Shortly after they were producing over 45,000 barrel of oil per day.
