Description

This extremely rare glass dish commemorates the "Garage Party" in 1963. It depicts the layout of the Garage Trading Floor at the NYSE from the U-shaped trading post to the member's smoking area. What they were celebrating in 1963, we do not know, but the fact that this commemorative dish survived is amazing. We have never seen another one.

In 1919, the NYSE purchased the property next door on the corner of Broad and Wall Street and began construction on the 23 story tower to compliment the original building of 1903. The new skyscraper increased the trading and office areas of the Exchange was nicknamed "The Garage". Trading in the Garage was conducted on the western end increasing the number of trading posts to 29. The new addition also provided rooms for members and even a barber shop. It was completed in 1922.
