Description Extended Information

This rare Stifel Financial Corp specimen stock certificate was printed in 2004. Stifel's history dates back to 1890 as the Altheimer and Rawlings Investment Company out of St. Louis. Shortly after, Herman Charles Stifel joined the firm and then Henry J Nicolaus joint the firm in 1910. The firm changed their name to the Stifel Investment Company in 1917 and then Stifel, Nicolaus Investment Company in 1923. Stifel grew tremendously throughout the years and in 1983 went public under the name Stifel Financial Corp on the NYSE. Total they are involved in assets management, financials services, and investment banking with assets of almost 1/2 trillion dollars.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
