Description Extended Information

This rare Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania Specimen Bond certificate is from 1941. Bell of Pennsylvania was founded in 1879 in Philadelphia and in 1907 changed their name to The Bell Telephone Company of Pennsylvania. They grew dramatically throughout the years through aggressive acquisitions of other telephone companies. When the Bell System was broken up in 1984 they were broken up into several regional Bells and Bell of Pennsylvania became part of Bell Atlantic. In 2000, when Bell Atlantic merged with GTE, they became Verizon and Bell of Pennsylvania would be called Verizon Pennsylvania, Inc.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
