"Through the Rockies, not around them" was the motto of The Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Company. This rare Denver and Rio Grand Railroad specimen version of the stock certificate is very hard to find. The Vignette features a rail line that was carved through the Rocky Mountains with a miner and pack mule. This specimen is from 1956 - 1977.

Formally known as just the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad, the company operated out of Denver through Salt Lake City and down to New Mexico operated the highest rail line in the U.S. with an elevated of over 10,000 feet through the Tennessee Pass, Moffat Tunnel and Royal Gorge.

Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
