Description Extended Information

This International Nickel Company stock certificate was issued in the 1920s and is hand signed. Inco was founded after the discovery of copper during the building of the Canadian Pacific Railroad in Ontario in 1902. The ore was also rich in nickel. They created the International Nickel Company subsidiary in NY and the International Minding Company of Canada to mine the nickel, both part of Inco. Over the years they were renamed CVRD Inco, Vale Inco, and finally just Vale. At one point Inco was the second largest nickel producer in the world.

Inco, as the International Nickel Company, was a charter member of the Dow Jones Industrial Average in October of 1928.
