Description Extended Information

This Turner Broadcasting System, Inc. $5000 Specimen Bond certificate was printed in the 1984 and features R.E. Turner (Ted Turner) as president. Turner Broadcasting was founded by Ted Turner in 1965. Turner started with local cable stations and is largely credited for the development of the basic cable television model. His big innovation was the launch of the Cable News Network or CNN in 1980. They were the first 24 hour news network. He later purchased Hanna-Barbera, Ruby-Spears animation, Castle Rock Entertainment and New Line Cinema. He launch the Cartoon Network in 1992, Turner Classic Movies in 1994 and of course TNT and TBS Superstation. TBS merged with Time Warner in 1996.

About Specimens:
Specimen stock certificates are certificates that were archived by printers and the company as perfect examples of the company’s stock issue. Specimen’s can be identified by their “specimen” stamp, stamped holes spelling “specimen”, or they are often issued with a serial number of a series of zeros. Often, they are also issued with no serial number at all. Specimens can also represent a design that was never issued. All of these attributes make the specimen stock certificate rarer than the issued version of the share. Many enthusiasts collect specimens as a whole new category of Scripophily.
