This Waltham Watch Company Stock Certificate was issued in 1938. The Waltham Watch Company is one of the first American watch companies dating back to 1850. Prior to that, most watches in the United States were from England or Switzerland. The company was originally called the American Horologe Company before being renamed after moving operations to Waltham, Massachusetts in 1854. The company would go through many successes and failures throughout the years which resulted in changes in ownership as well. Their history is extensive. Their original factory in Waltham has been preserved as the American Waltham Watch Company Historic District.
